With less than thirty minutes to go on this first day of 2012, I wanted to write a quick post that kind of serves two purposes. First of all, Happy New Year to those of you reading this. Hopefully 2012 is all kinds of awesome. Secondly, last week I finally picked up a new Wacom Intuos4 tablet, something I’ve been eyeing for awhile. I consider it my birthday/Christmas present to myself. With this new purchase, I’ve also decided that in 2012 I’d like to draw more. A lot more. More than I’ve already been drawing.
I’m not one to make resolutions at the start of a new year, namely because I rarely stick to them, but I guess you could call this a resolution of sorts. To help myself draw more, I’d like to post at least one drawing (whether it’s a vector, a raster, a sketch in my Moleskine) a day for the entire year. Since it’s a leap year, that’s 366 drawings. I figure if I mention this on my blog, maybe I’ll be more likely to stick to it. Or not. We’ll see.*
So consider this drawing number one. You can also consider it my very first attempt at digital painting using my new tablet. I’ve always wanted to try the whole digital painting thing, and hey, what do you know? It’s kind of fun. And infinitely less messy than painting with acrylics or oils. I’ve seen some people do amazing things with digital paintings, and while I’m nowhere near that level, it’s still fun to play with. This was something I whipped out quickly, too, since the whole 366 drawings thing was something I came with, oh, with just a few hours left in the day.
But yes, there you go. My sort of New Year’s resolution.
*I reserve the right to turn this into 52 drawings if I forget to draw something tomorrow. Not that I will, but you never know. Hey, it’s my blog, and I can make up the rules as I see fit.
